Timothy Baker Posing as Civil Engineer from Sweden
by Anonymous
This scam lasted just a weekend because red flags popped up immediately for me. "Timothy Baker" found me through eHarmony and was very charming (you are very beautiful, blah, blah, blah). In his photo, he looked like a model.
He advertised as being from Baltimore, but working all over the world, widower, father died, mother died. Poor grammar (lots of "i" instead of I). Lots of talk about looking for the love of his life, traveling, etc. He asked right away that I provide my personal email address. I did, but it was an email address I use when suspecting spam or con artists (no personal information).
Then a day later he asked about me providing my cell number. I did not. But what is interesting is his past 3 emails describing his fake life extensively have disappeared from my email history, the evidence is gone.
This must be a new tactic to reduce the chance of being prosecuted. So my tip is to cut and paste any letters as soon as you get them (when you have that feeling this might be a scam) and keep in a separate Word folder.
Then the cyber crime folks will have some evidence if it comes to that. Again, ladies beware.
The con artists are everywhere and waiting to pounce!
